Morgon "Corcelette" 2021 Jean Foillard
Jean Foillard's 2021 Morgon "Corcelette" is a benchmark for naturally made Beaujolais. Sourced exclusively from Gamay grapes grown in the famed Corcelette lieu-dit, located northwest of Villié-Morgon, the vines thrive on decomposed pink granite and sandy soils, yielding wines of elegance and complexity.
A key figure of the natural wine movement, Foillard farms organically (though uncertified) and vinifies without additives or manipulations: hand-harvested grapes, whole-cluster spontaneous fermentation, and semi-carbonic maceration lasting up to 4 weeks. The wine then rests for at least 6 months in used Burgundy barrels, followed by further bottle aging.
In the glass, it shows a brilliant ruby-red color with magenta hues. The nose is floral and mineral, revealing violet, wild strawberry jam, wet stone and salty nuances. On the palate, it is supple and vibrant, with silky tannins, marked freshness, and a finish of crystalline precision.
A soulful, terroir-driven wine that perfectly captures the spirit of artisanal Morgon.
