List of products by brand JEAN FOILLARD

Jean Foillard is one of the leading figures behind the qualitative renaissance of Beaujolais and a benchmark producer of Gamay from the Morgon cru. A spiritual disciple of Jules Chauvet and Marcel Lapierre, he transformed his family estate into a global reference point. His wines are crafted through artisan practices, spontaneous fermentations, and minimal sulfur use, expressing finesse, depth, and a strong sense of terroir. With around 15 hectares between Morgon and Fleurie, Foillard produces wines that are silky, elegant, and capable of aging, often developing Pinot Noir-like complexity over time.

Jean Foillard stands today as one of the key figures in the transformation of Beaujolais from a region historically associated with simple, easy-drinking wines into a benchmark area for complex, age-worthy reds. Taking over his family estate in the 1980s, Foillard embarked on a revolutionary path inspired by the teachings of Jules Chauvet and Marcel Lapierre, pioneers of a more natural and terroir-driven approach to winemaking.

The core of the production lies in the Morgon appellation, one of the most prestigious crus of Beaujolais, located in Villié-Morgon. Here, Foillard cultivates outstanding vineyard parcels, including the renowned Côte du Py, a volcanic hill rich in schist and manganese. This unique terroir gives the wines a distinct mineral backbone, structure, and remarkable aging potential, allowing Gamay to reach levels of complexity often compared to great Burgundy Pinot Noir.

The estate covers nearly 15 hectares, spread across Morgon (Côte du Py, Corcelette, and other parcels) and Fleurie (Grille-Midi and La Madone), with a small portion of grapes sourced from trusted growers. The vineyards are currently in organic conversion, reflecting a growing commitment to sustainability and soil vitality.

In the cellar, Foillard follows a minimalist yet precise philosophy: spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, semi-carbonic maceration with whole clusters, and very low sulfur additions. This traditional Beaujolais technique enhances the wine’s aromatic profile, resulting in intense notes of ripe red fruit, floral nuances, and subtle spices, supported by fine, silky tannins.

What truly defines Jean Foillard’s wines is their tactile elegance, with a velvety texture, balanced richness, and a refined, lingering finish, never marked by excess. This stylistic signature is the result of years of refinement, moving away from conventional methods toward a more precise and expressive approach.

Today, alongside producers like Lapierre and Chamonard, Foillard is considered one of the main architects of the Beaujolais renaissance, helping to reshape the global perception of Gamay. His Morgon wines strike a perfect balance between immediate charm and long-term aging potential, making them essential for both enthusiasts and collectors.
