Pinot Nero “Junior” 2022 Monsupello
The Pinot Nero “Junior” 2022 by Monsupello is a genuine and accessible expression of Pinot Noir from the Oltrepò Pavese, one of Italy’s most suitable areas for this noble grape. The Monsupello estate, owned by the Boatti family since 1893 in Cà del Tava (Oliva Gessi), is now run by Pierangelo and Laura, who continue the family tradition with a modern focus on quality and precision.
The vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soils, ideal for structure and balance, with a south-west exposure ensuring optimal ripening. The local climate, with warm dry summers and cold, foggy winters, enhances aromatic intensity and complexity. Harvesting is manual, with careful selection of the best grape clusters.
Winemaking is straightforward and focused on preserving fruit purity: destemming, alcoholic fermentation followed by malolactic fermentation, and aging in stainless steel for a few months, maintaining freshness and aromatic clarity.
In the glass, it displays a bright ruby red color. The nose is expressive and inviting, with aromas of cherry, strawberry and red berries, complemented by subtle earthy and spicy nuances. On the palate, it is fresh, lively and elegant, with soft, integrated tannins and excellent drinkability.
It pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto, grilled or braised red meats, and aged cheeses, making it a versatile wine for everyday enjoyment. The “Junior” showcases Monsupello’s ability to combine tradition, precision and drinkability, delivering a modern Pinot Noir that remains true to its origins.
