Vino Bianco “Acini Perduti” 2020 – Tappero Merlo
The White Wine “Acini Perduti” 2020 by Tappero Merlo is rooted in the historical viticulture of Piedmont and inspired by the 1606 treatise of G.B. Croce, which described the finest grape varieties cultivated in the hills of Turin during the Savoy court era. This wine revives an ancient local white grape once lost in the Canavese region, known for its aromatic intensity and expressive character, now interpreted in a modern dry style alongside another traditional variety from Caluso.
Vineyards planted in 2014 at 295 meters above sea level grow on sandy morainic soils, trained with the Guyot system at a density of 4,500 vines per hectare and limited yields of 40 hl/ha. The farming approach is fully natural and harvest is carried out exclusively by hand in mid-September to preserve grape quality and integrity.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel using indigenous yeasts, ensuring authenticity and terroir expression. Ageing continues in stainless steel until the following spring, followed by gentle clarification and filtration and a short bottle ageing period before release.
In the glass it shows a pale greenish-yellow colour with straw reflections. The bouquet is intense and enveloping, with delicate aromatic hints of sage, lemon verbena, basil, wild herbs and marjoram, followed by citrus, pear, apple and floral notes of acacia and broom. On the palate it offers balanced freshness and salinity, moderate structure and good persistence. A distinctive Italian white wine that brings an intriguing piece of history into a refined contemporary style.
