Fumin “Vigne Rovettaz” 2019 Grosjean
Fumin “Vigne Rovettaz” by Grosjean is one of the purest expressions of mountain winemaking in the Aosta Valley. It comes from a small vineyard in the Rovettaz area of Quart, located between 600 and 700 meters above sea level, on slopes as steep as 80% and facing south to southwest. The glacial soil, light and sandy with abundant stones, ensures excellent drainage and a natural concentration of the grapes, giving the wine remarkable depth and aromatic intensity.
Cultivated using the Guyot system, the 0.9-hectare vineyard is managed with eco-friendly, integrated farming methods: manual soil tilling, green manure between rows, and organic fertilization with cattle manure every 5–6 years. The harvest, carried out manually between late October and early November, selects only perfectly ripe grapes.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts and a long maceration of 20–30 days with daily punch-downs. The wine is then aged for 12–15 months in French oak barriques, followed by several months in bottle before release.
In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby red color. The bouquet is complex and expressive, with notes of ripe black cherry, forest undergrowth, gentle spice, and hints of oak and balsamic herbs. The palate is dry, full-bodied and structured, with soft, silky tannins and a fresh, lingering finish that reflects its alpine origin.
A wine of character and elegance, ideal with red meats, game, and mature cheeses, or enjoyed on its own to appreciate the essence of mountain viticulture.
