SP68 Rosso 2024 Arianna Occhipinti
The SP68 Rosso 2024 is one of the most iconic wines produced by Arianna Occhipinti, a leading voice of modern Sicilian winemaking. The name SP68 refers to the provincial road that crosses the estate’s vineyards and connects Vittoria to the sea, symbolizing the deep agricultural roots of the territory.
The wine is a blend of Frappato (70%) and Nero d’Avola (30%), grown at about 280 meters above sea level on the calcareous sandy soils typical of the sub-Apennine sands of the Iblei Mountains. The vineyards have an average age of around 15 years and are trained using Guyot and spur cordon, with a density of approximately 6,000 vines per hectare. Farming follows organic practices, with no chemical interventions.
Harvest is carried out manually between the last week of September and the first ten days of October, when the grapes reach optimal balance between ripeness and freshness. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts and includes a 15-day maceration on the skins, allowing for gentle extraction.
The wine then ages for 6 months in concrete tanks, followed by one month in bottle, with no filtration, preserving its natural expression.
In the glass, SP68 Rosso 2024 shows an immediate and inviting aromatic profile with fresh red berries, cherry, pomegranate and delicate floral notes. On the palate it is juicy, balanced and lively, with soft tannins and vibrant acidity that makes it extremely drinkable. The finish is savory and bright, reflecting the warmth and energy of the Sicilian landscape.
It pairs beautifully with cured meats, tomato-based pasta, white meats, seared tuna and Mediterranean cuisine, and can also be served slightly chilled for added freshness.
