Côtes du Jura Chardonnay de la Vallée 2023 Domaine Courbet
The Côtes du Jura “Chardonnay de la Vallée” 2023 from Domaine Courbet is crafted in the heart of the Baume-les-Messieurs valley, a place of striking landscapes and deep geological identity, where Chardonnay reveals a uniquely authentic character. The grapes come from 0.75 hectares of vineyards averaging 25 to 30 years of age, farmed according to organic and natural principles, with great respect for soil life and biodiversity.
The clay soils with limestone presence play a central role in shaping the wine’s profile, providing structure, depth and a distinctive mineral tension typical of Jura wines. Harvesting is done by hand, followed by whole-cluster pressing, preserving aromatic purity and finesse.
Vinification is deliberately restrained: the wine ferments and matures for around 12 months, split between stainless steel tanks and oak barrels (approximately 50%), allowing the wine to develop balance and complexity without losing freshness. Light filtration and a low sulphur addition (32 mg/l) help maintain the wine’s vitality and transparency.
In the glass, it offers aromas of white-fleshed fruit, ripe citrus and delicate floral notes, intertwined with chalky and saline nuances that clearly reflect the terroir. The palate is energetic and precise, driven by vibrant acidity and a long, mineral finish. With a limited production of just 3,800 bottles, this wine stands as a refined and authentic expression of Côtes du Jura Chardonnay, with excellent aging potential.
