Brouilly 2023 Alex Foillard
In the landscape of modern Beaujolais, Alex Foillard stands as one of the most coherent voices of the new generation. Son of Jean Foillard, a reference name in Morgon’s natural wine movement, he builds on a strong family heritage while developing his own stylistic identity.
Brouilly 2023 comes from vineyards planted on granite-rich soils within the Brouilly appellation. This geological foundation gives Gamay its distinctive tension, aromatic clarity and energetic profile. Vineyard work follows organic and natural principles, with low yields and careful manual practices focused on vine balance and soil vitality.
In the cellar, the approach remains deliberately restrained. Fermentations are spontaneous with native yeasts, using semi-carbonic maceration rooted in traditional Beaujolais methods. Ageing lasts around 9 months, split between concrete and used oak, with no fining, no filtration and minimal sulphur additions.
The wine shows a bright ruby colour and an expressive aromatic profile of red berries, subtle herbal notes and hints of liquorice. On the palate it is fluid and approachable, yet more structured than expected, with a dynamic mid-palate and a clean, fruit-driven finish.
Brouilly 2023 is immediate in style but defined in identity. A contemporary expression of Gamay, where freshness, drinkability and precision converge naturally within the Foillard lineage.
