The Arbois Pupillin Poulsard “Plous’saperlipopette” 2023 is a natural wine that exemplifies the finesse of Jura reds. Produced by Julien Mareschal in Pupillin, a historic heartland for great Ploussard wines, it comes from 100% Poulsard grapes cultivated on grey clay-limestone marl soils, farmed biodynamically with low yields. Hand-harvested, the grapes are 80% destemmed and 20% whole-cluster, preserving the fruit’s integrity and freshness.

Winemaking follows natural principles: no added sulfites, spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, and gentle skin contact to extract color and structure while maintaining elegance. The wine shows a light ruby hue, with aromas of fresh red berries, subtle spices, and a hint of smokiness characteristic of Jura.

On the palate, “Plous’saperlipopette” is delicate, balanced, and vibrant, with soft tannins and lively acidity. It is refreshing, easy to drink, and immediately enjoyable. Domaine de la Borde is a small winery nestled in Pupillin, at the heart of Jura, masterfully run by Julien Mareschal, a new-generation winemaker. After gaining experience in various wine regions across France, Julien returned to his native land to create genuine wines that express the true character of Jura’s terroir.

Since 2012, the estate has embraced biodynamic agriculture, cultivating vines with deep respect for nature, the land, and the grape. On 5 hectares of steep vineyards rich in blue marl soils, Julien grows Ploussard, Trousseau, Savagnin, and classics like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The high elevation and minimal intervention winemaking result in a lineup of expressive, vibrant wines that reflect both tradition and place—including his refined whites and the iconic Vin Jaune, a symbol of Jura.
