Bourgogne Aligoté 2021 Domaine Pierre Morey
The Bourgogne Aligoté 2021 from Domaine Pierre Morey is an outstanding expression of Burgundy’s historic Aligoté grape, proving that this often underestimated variety can produce wines of remarkable finesse and complexity when cultivated on exceptional terroirs. The vineyards are located around Meursault, planted on deep clay-limestone soils that provide the wine with precision, freshness and an unmistakable mineral backbone.
Pierre Morey is regarded as one of Burgundy’s most respected winemakers. Former régisseur of Domaine Leflaive and one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in the Côte de Beaune, he has built his own estate around a philosophy of minimal intervention and absolute respect for the vineyard. Every decision, from vineyard management to cellar work, is aimed at allowing the terroir to express itself naturally and transparently.
The grapes are harvested by hand and gently vinified before spending approximately twelve months ageing in stainless steel tanks. This choice preserves the purity of the fruit, the vibrant acidity and the crystalline minerality that define this exceptional Aligoté.
The wine displays a bright golden straw-yellow colour. Aromas of lemon, grapefruit, green apple and white flowers emerge alongside subtle chalky and herbal nuances. On the palate it is lively, focused and beautifully balanced, combining crisp acidity with a refined texture and a long, saline finish that leaves a lasting impression.
Although immediately enjoyable for its freshness and energy, this Bourgogne Aligoté also possesses remarkable ageing potential, an uncommon quality for the appellation and a hallmark of Pierre Morey’s meticulous craftsmanship. It pairs beautifully with oysters, shellfish, seafood, sushi, fresh cheeses and Mediterranean cuisine, while also rewarding patient cellaring with increasing complexity over the years.
