Saint Julien en Saint Alban Vieille Serine 2015 by Eric Texier is rooted in the historic terroir of Brézème, one of the Rhône Valley's most distinctive yet long-overlooked wine-growing areas. After leaving a career as a nuclear engineer, Eric Texier devoted himself to wine with the ambition of restoring forgotten vineyards and preserving traditional Rhône varieties. Today, together with his son Martin, he farms twelve hectares of certified organic vineyards according to agroecological principles, embracing a philosophy based on respect for nature and minimal intervention.
This cuvée is made from 100% Serine, the ancient local form of Syrah, harvested from vines more than seventy years old planted on limestone marl slopes. The fruit is fermented with indigenous yeasts and whole clusters, following a traditional approach that avoids unnecessary extraction and preserves the character of both grape and site. Ageing continues for 36 to 48 months on the lees in large wooden vats, without fining, filtration or added inputs, allowing the wine to evolve naturally while maintaining purity and balance.
The bouquet reveals layers of forest floor, moss, black pepper, delicate spices and wild berries, supported by subtle floral notes and a distinctive mineral edge. On the palate, Saint Julien en Saint Alban Vieille Serine 2015 is generous yet finely structured, combining ripe tannins with vibrant freshness and remarkable depth. The finish is long, savoury and persistent, reflecting both the old Serine vines and the unique limestone soils of Brézème.
