Volnay 2022 Antoine Jobard
The 2022 Volnay from Antoine Jobard originates from a tiny 0.18 ha parcel in Les Combes, bordering Pommard—a prestigious holding acquired in 2019 from André Mussy’s domaine . Vines, over 30 years old, are farmed organically with low yields and hand-harvested to convey pure varietal expression.
Winemaking follows a minimalist approach: fully destemmed fruit, spontaneous fermentation on high solids, and aging for around 20 months in barrels with only about 15% new oak sourced from Damy cooperage in Meursault . The wine is bottled late, following the domaine’s tradition.
It displays deep ruby color with a purple hue. On the nose, it is lively and airy, showing cherry, raspberry, herbal notes, and gentle spice. The palate is juicy and well-structured, with silky tannins, refined acidity and a savory, persistent finish. Bill Nanson describes it as “energetic, structured and delectably delicious”.
Antoine Jobard, the fifth generation at Meursault, upholds terroir respect with organic farming, native fermentations, minimal new wood, no filtration, and late bottling. His wines are seen as “more open, precise and approachable in youth than his father’s”.
Pair with: roasted poultry, mushroom dishes, light game, charcuterie, or pâtés.
Antoine Jobard's wines are suitable for those who appreciate energetic and mineral rather than creamy and woody Meursault, wines that are not easy to understand but long-lived and able to evolve magnificently.
