Sizzano Riserva 2015 Monsecco

Sizzano Riserva 2015 by Monsecco is a fine red wine that reflects the tradition and elegance of Northern Piedmont. Sizzano is one of the region’s oldest denominations, and this Riserva is made from a classic blend of Nebbiolo (Spanna), Vespolina, and a small amount of Uva Rara, all native grapes that contribute to its distinctive character.

The grapes are grown on sandy and clay-rich morainic soils, which lend minerality, freshness, and aromatic depth. Following manual harvest and spontaneous fermentation, the wine is aged for over 36 months in large oak barrels, then refined further in bottle.

The 2015 vintage is considered excellent for its balance and ripeness. In the glass, it shows a bright garnet color, and the nose reveals aromas of ripe red fruit, dried flowers, leather, balsamic herbs, and sweet spices. The palate is deep and refined, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish.

An important red wine for pairing with braised meats, game, truffle risottos, or aged cheeses, or for collectors seeking age-worthy bottles.

MONSECCO

Monsecco is a historic winery rooted in the northern Piedmont region of Italy, between the Novara hills and the banks of the Sesia River. Founded in 1872 in Gattinara, Monsecco has long been synonymous with age-worthy red wines based on Nebbiolo, a grape that thrives in this unique Alpine foothill terroir.

From the beginning, the estate has focused on low yields, meticulous grape selection, and long aging in large oak barrels, resulting in red wines of great structure, complexity, and longevity. During the 1970s, Monsecco’s wines gained traction among Italy’s finest wine shops and achieved international acclaim through prestigious importers — standing out as a niche label in a time when high-quality Italian reds were still relatively unknown.
