Grüner Veltliner “Praepositus” 2018 Grandi Bottiglie
The Grüner Veltliner “Praepositus” 2018 is one of the finest expressions of this grape in Italy, produced by Abbazia di Novacella in the steep, mineral-rich vineyards of the Isarco Valley. Here, at altitudes between 650 and 850 meters, Grüner Veltliner reaches extraordinary levels of freshness, aromatic complexity, and longevity.
Grapes are carefully hand-harvested and gently pressed. The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel, with extended contact on the lees to enhance texture and nuance. Compared to the standard version, the “Praepositus” bottling benefits from older vines, lower yields, and longer aging.
In the glass, it shows a deep straw yellow color with golden reflections. The nose opens with aromas of ripe yellow fruit, mountain herbs, quince, white pepper, and a hint of flint. On the palate, it is broad and structured, yet vibrant and mineral-driven, with a long finish marked by citrus zest and stony salinity. A wine that pairs beautifully with complex risottos, roast poultry, smoked trout, or aged cheeses.
