Kerner “Praepositus” 2019 Abbazia di Novacella
The Kerner “Praepositus” 2019 by Abbazia di Novacella represents the pinnacle of Kerner production in Alto Adige. Made from grapes grown on the steep, mineral-rich slopes of the Isarco Valley at altitudes between 650 and 900 meters, this wine offers a pure and powerful expression of its alpine terroir.
Kerner, a cross between Riesling and Schiava, thrives in the cool microclimate of northern South Tyrol. After fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel, the wine rests on the lees for several months, developing complexity, texture, and finesse.
In the glass, it shows a deep straw yellow color with golden highlights. The bouquet is intense and layered, with aromas of yellow peach, quince, mango, alpine herbs, white flowers, and a delicate hint of spice. The palate is rich and enveloping, yet balanced by a vibrant acidity and mineral backbone. A perfect wine for smoked fish, spicy seafood dishes, or aged blue cheeses.
