Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC 2023 Giovanni Sordo
The Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC 2023 by Giovanni Sordo is produced from vineyards located in the Roero area, on the left bank of the Tanaro River, a zone known for producing Nebbiolo wines with a more generous and fruit-forward profile while retaining varietal elegance.
The vineyards lie between 280 and 330 metres above sea level, with south and south-west exposure, ensuring optimal ripening. The soils are composed of grey-blue calcareous marls, compact and deep, contributing structure, finesse and aromatic richness.
The vines, around 30 years old, are trained using vertical trellising with traditional Guyot pruning, at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare. Controlled yields of approximately 80 quintals per hectare allow for balanced and expressive fruit.
Vinification begins with crushing and destemming, followed by a submerged-cap maceration lasting about 10 days, depending on the vintage. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 30°C, enhancing extraction and aromatic complexity.
The wine matures for 6 months in stainless steel, preserving freshness, and is then aged for 9 months in large Slavonian oak casks, which refine the tannins without masking the varietal character.
In the glass, it shows a garnet red colour, developing orange hues with age. The bouquet is delicate and ethereal, intense, broad and persistent, with refined aromatic nuances.
On the palate, it is warm, full-bodied and complex, yet dry and well-balanced. Its classic austerity is softened by sweet, well-integrated tannins, offering harmony and depth.
Best served at 18–20°C, the Nebbiolo d’Alba 2023 by Giovanni Sordo pairs beautifully with rice dishes, soups, pasta, as well as braised meats, game and aged cheeses.
