Dolcetto d’Alba 2023 Giovanni Sordo
The Dolcetto d’Alba DOC 2023 by Giovanni Sordo is produced from vineyards located in Castiglione Falletto and La Morra, two prestigious areas of the Langhe where each vineyard gives Dolcetto a distinct and recognisable character.
The vineyards are situated at around 300 metres above sea level, with west and south-west exposure, ensuring balanced ripening. The soils are calcareous and clay-based, rich in mineral salts, which contribute to structure, vinosity and aromatic complexity.
The vines, aged between 25 and 30 years, are trained on vertical trellises with traditional Guyot pruning, with a density of 4,500 vines per hectare. Controlled yields of approximately 70 quintals per hectare guarantee concentration and balance.
Vinification includes crushing and destemming, followed by a submerged-cap maceration lasting about one week, depending on the vintage. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 25°C, preserving varietal freshness.
The wine matures for 6 months in stainless steel and is then bottle-aged for 3 months, without oak ageing, to maintain its pure and vibrant expression.
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby red colour with violet highlights that fade over time. The bouquet is delicate and floral, intense, broad and persistent, with notes of fresh fruit.
On the palate, it is fresh, fruity and full-bodied, yet dry and well-balanced, offering an inviting and drinkable profile. Best served at 18–20°C, the Dolcetto d’Alba 2023 by Giovanni Sordo pairs well with light appetisers, mildly seasoned cured meats, fresh cheeses and even shellfish.
