Barolo 2021 Giovanni Sordo
The Barolo DOCG 2021 by Giovanni Sordo is produced from a carefully selected blend of vineyards located in the heart of the denomination: Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d’Alba, Monforte d’Alba, Barolo, Novello, La Morra, Verduno and Grinzane Cavour. This approach brings together different terroir expressions into a harmonious and authentic Barolo.
Made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, the vineyards lie between 300 and 400 metres above sea level, with south and south-west exposures, ideal for slow and complete ripening. The soils are composed of compact grey-blue calcareous marls, deep and rich in microelements, providing structure, finesse and longevity.
Vineyards aged between 10 and 40 years are trained using traditional Guyot pruning on vertical trellises, with a planting density of 4,000 vines per hectare and controlled yields of 68–72 quintals per hectare, ensuring quality and balance.
Vinification follows a traditional philosophy: destemming and crushing, followed by a long submerged-cap maceration, adjusted according to the vintage, with fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. After 6 months of ageing in stainless steel, the wine matures for 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks, refining the tannins while preserving varietal purity.
In the glass, it displays a garnet-red colour with orange hues that become more pronounced over time. The nose is delicate, ethereal and persistent, gradually revealing depth and complexity. On the palate, it is warm, full-bodied, complex and dry, supported by sweet, layered tannins that lend structure and elegance.
The Barolo 2021 by Giovanni Sordo is a timeless, age-worthy wine, perfectly suited to red meats, game, braised dishes, roasts and aged cheeses, especially from Piedmontese cuisine.
