Etna Rosso “Contrada Diciassettesalme” 2021 Cottanera
The Etna Rosso “Contrada Diciassettesalme” 2021 by Cottanera is a cru that embodies the power and elegance of Nerello Mascalese grown on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna. Sourced from vineyards located around 750 meters above sea level, with an average age of 16 years, this wine reflects the mineral richness of the Etna terroir.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red color. The nose opens with aromas of wild red berries—raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries—followed by herbal nuances of thyme, juniper, and mallow, together with a distinctive volcanic minerality.
The palate is broad and structured, offering fine, balanced tannins and a vibrant freshness that extends into a long, elegant, balsamic finish.
The vinification includes gentle destemming and long maceration on the skins at controlled temperature, followed by fermentation and malolactic conversion in French oak barrels. The 8-month maturation in large oak casks adds roundness and depth without overpowering the varietal purity.
This Etna Rosso perfectly expresses the Cottanera philosophy — balance, authenticity, and a profound connection to the Etna terroir. It pairs beautifully with red meats, game, and aged cheeses.
