Primitivo Gioia del Colle “Senatore” 2017 - Coppi
The Gioia del Colle Primitivo “Senatore” 2017 is produced in the heart of the Murgia hills, Puglia, where gentle slopes, calcareous-clay soils, and centuries of tradition converge to create ideal conditions for Primitivo. This wine honors Senator Antonio Michele Coppi, the visionary founder of Cantina Coppi, who deeply understood the land and the noble qualities of Primitivo.
The 100% Primitivo grapes are hand-harvested in early September from vines planted in 1990, with a yield of 1 to 4 kg per plant. In the winery, meticulous grape selection is followed by destemming, crushing, and controlled-temperature fermentation on the skins, extracting fruitiness, tannins, and polyphenols. After fermentation, the wine is aged in steel tanks until bottling.
Visually, the wine shows an intense ruby red with violet highlights, with fine, persistent, slightly spicy aromas. On the palate, it is dry, warm, and smooth, with prominent tannins and a savory character that pairs excellently with rich and flavorful dishes such as moussaka, chicken in soy sauce, onion soups, toasted bread with lard, or aged cheeses. Thanks to its structure and concentration, the Senatore 2017 can be cellared for up to 15 years, evolving gracefully and offering unique tasting experiences over time.
