Domaine de la Pinte Arbois Savagnin 2016
The Domaine de la Pinte Arbois Savagnin is a prime example of Jura white wine, showcasing the authenticity of the Arbois terroir and the Savagnin grape. Domaine de la Pinte is a family-run estate in its second generation, managing 34 hectares of vineyards primarily planted on Lias blue marl soils, at around 400 meters elevation in Arbois and Pupillin. The winery has practiced organic farming since 1999 and biodynamics since 2009, favoring low-yielding vines and high-quality grapes to produce wines with elegance and strong typicity.
The grapes for the Domaine de la Pinte Arbois Savagnin are small and concentrated, harvested from some of the oldest plots in the estate. After harvest, the grapes are directly pressed, and the must is allowed to settle for 24 hours, separating gross lees by gravity. Fermentation occurs in vat with indigenous yeasts, followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation after the first racking. The wine is aged 3 years in large foudres and old Burgundy barrels, gaining complexity and structure while retaining freshness. Before bottling, it is lightly filtered with very low sulfur, ensuring aromatic precision and purity.
On the nose, the Savagnin shows intense fruit and spice aromas reflecting the vintage. On the palate, the wine opens velvety, with a bracing acidity balancing the riper notes, and a slightly bitter, attractive finish typical of top Jura Savagnin. It is powerful and round yet herbal and full of energy, perfect with Jura cheeses, structured fish dishes, and complex vegetarian cuisine.
The Domaine de la Pinte Arbois Savagnin perfectly combines biodynamic tradition, unique soils, and long aging, resulting in a wine of elegance, minerality, and personality—a true expression of Jura and French family viticulture.
