TERRE SPARSE
Terre Sparse was established in 2001 in Bienca, a small village in Chiaverano, within the Canavese area of Piedmont. What began as a family project focused on restoring abandoned land has evolved into a distinctive winery rooted in territorial identity and technical expertise. Early efforts were dedicated to rebuilding historic terraces and cultivating vineyards alongside fruit crops.
A key turning point came with the involvement of the new generation, formally trained in Viticulture and Enology, who introduced a more structured and quality-driven approach. From 2009 onwards, the winery expanded significantly with the construction of its winemaking facility, the first vinifications, and the development of new vineyards. The reintroduction of native grape varieties such as Freisa, Uva Rara and Slarina further strengthened its identity.
The estate lies within the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre, a unique geological formation shaped by the ancient Balteo glacier. This environment, characterized by morainic soils, terraced slopes and alpine microclimate, provides ideal conditions for producing wines with freshness, minerality and character.
A defining feature of Terre Sparse is the Balmetto, a natural cellar located at the foot of Mount Mombarone. Formed centuries ago, these structures harness underground airflows to maintain constant temperature and humidity, creating perfect conditions for aging. Here, wines mature in both wood and bottle, developing complexity and balance in a completely natural way.
Terre Sparse’s philosophy is focused on reviving and enhancing the local territory through authentic wines, crafted with a sustainable and artisanal mindset. The result is a portfolio of wines that combine tradition with modern precision, offering a strong and recognizable expression of Canavese.
