Pommard “Clos Marey-Monge” 2008 Château de Pommard
The Pommard “Clos Marey-Monge” 2008 exemplifies the power and elegance of a great Burgundy Pinot Noir. Grapes are sourced from the Clos Marey-Monge monopole, Burgundy’s largest, protected by a two-meter-high stone wall and located at the base of the Pommard hill. Soils rich in alluvia, sand, and gravel from the Avant-Dheune river provide mineral complexity and depth.
Harvested by hand with meticulous selection, grapes are fully de-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel vats with a slow maceration, minimal pumping-over, and gentle punch-downs. Pressing occurs in pneumatic press, followed by aging in French oak barrels on fine lees and light filtration before bottling.
Visually, the wine shows a deep, luminous ruby color. The nose is complex and harmonious, revealing ripe red and black fruits such as cherry, blackcurrant, raspberry, and blackberry, complemented by warm spices, roasted coffee, tobacco, mint, and earthy forest floor notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied and vertical, with integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a long, persistent finish, reflecting the 2008 vintage’s structure and longevity.
The blend of seven vineyard parcels within Clos Marey-Monge, on clay and limestone-rich soils, gives the wine depth, elegance, and sophistication. Ideal with red meats, game, or mature cheeses, or as a wine to cellar and enjoy in the future.
