Château de Pommard is one of Burgundy’s most historic and iconic estates, founded in 1726. Located in the Côte de Beaune, it is renowned for the Clos Marey-Monge monopole, the largest single vineyard in Burgundy. Today, under the Carabello-Baum family, the estate combines tradition and innovation, producing elegant and complex Pinot Noir wines.

Château de Pommard is one of Burgundy’s most emblematic wine estates, with a history spanning nearly three centuries. Officially founded in 1726, its viticultural origins date back even further, to 909, when Benedictine monks first planted vines in the area.

Over time, five major families have shaped the estate into one of the most prestigious domains in the Côte de Beaune. Since 2014, the estate has been owned by the Carabello-Baum family, who have brought renewed energy and a strong focus on quality, elevating the domaine’s international reputation.

The estate covers approximately 50 hectares, including 20 hectares of vineyards located across some of Burgundy’s most renowned appellations: Pommard, Volnay, Gevrey-Chambertin, Meursault, and Chassagne-Montrachet. At its core lies the famous Clos Marey-Monge, a 20-hectare monopole and the largest single vineyard in Burgundy, characterized by complex clay and limestone soils enriched by ancient alluvial deposits.

Within the Clos, each parcel is vinified separately to highlight its unique terroir expression. The estate’s five main cuvées are then carefully blended, resulting in wines of depth, elegance, and structure. In addition, Château de Pommard produces wines from some of Burgundy’s most prestigious appellations, including Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru.

The winemaking philosophy is rooted in respect for nature and terroir. Grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted, and vinified separately to preserve the identity of each plot. Since 2016, the estate has been transitioning to sustainable viticulture, eliminating chemical inputs in favor of traditional methods.

Today, vineyards are managed according to biodynamic principles, including the use of horses for soil cultivation to promote natural aeration and ecosystem balance. The estate achieved organic certification in 2019 and biodynamic certification in 2021, confirming its commitment to sustainable wine production.

Combining heritage, a unique terroir, and modern vision, Château de Pommard continues to produce some of the most distinctive Pinot Noir wines in Burgundy, renowned worldwide for their elegance, complexity, and aging potential.
