Meursault 1er Cru Perrières 2023 Albert Grivault
The Meursault 1er Cru Perrières 2023 is one of the finest expressions of Chardonnay produced in the Côte de Beaune. The famous Perrières vineyard, whose name refers to the historic stone quarries that once occupied the hillside, is renowned for its exceptionally stony limestone soils, giving birth to wines often considered to rival Burgundy’s greatest Grand Crus.
Domaine Albert Grivault is the leading landowner within this prestigious Premier Cru, farming more than 1.5 hectares spread across two exceptional vineyard parcels with ideal south-southwest exposure. The vines, averaging around 35 years of age, are rooted in perfectly balanced clay, limestone and sandy soils that produce wines of remarkable concentration, elegance and mineral precision.
Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand before traditional Burgundian vinification begins. Fermentation and ageing take place in French oak barrels, a proportion of which are new depending on the vintage. This careful élevage enhances texture and complexity while preserving the vineyard’s remarkable purity and terroir expression.
The wine displays a brilliant golden colour. The bouquet opens with refined aromas of pear, white peach, lemon zest, acacia blossom and hawthorn, followed by elegant notes of hazelnut, fresh butter, flint and delicate toast.
On the palate, Perrières immediately reveals its hallmark tension and precision. Rich yet remarkably focused, it combines creamy texture with vibrant acidity and a pronounced saline minerality. The finish is exceptionally long, leaving lingering impressions of citrus, chalk and subtle spice.
Built for long ageing, the 2023 vintage promises to develop beautifully over 20 years or more, gaining additional layers of honey, toasted nuts, truffle and complex tertiary aromas while maintaining its remarkable freshness.
An outstanding companion to lobster, scallops, turbot, fine shellfish, foie gras, creamy poultry dishes and aged cheeses, this is one of Burgundy’s most compelling white wines.
