Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2024 Alain Gautheron
The 2024 Chablis Vieilles Vignes by Alain Gautheron comes from Fleys, in the heart of Chablis, where the Gautheron family has cultivated vineyards for seven generations. This cuvée offers a deeper expression of northern Burgundy Chardonnay, combining the concentration of mature vines with the freshness and precision that define the appellation.
The grapes come from Chardonnay vines approximately 55 years old, planted on slopes with exposures ranging from northeast to west. The vineyards are rooted in Kimmeridgian limestone and marl, rich in ancient marine fossils, which contribute to the distinctive mineral character associated with Chablis.
Following pressing and static settling of the must, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks. The wine is then matured in both tanks and oak barrels, following a traditional approach designed to develop texture and complexity while preserving its sense of place.
In the glass, the wine displays a brilliant pale golden colour with delicate green reflections. The nose opens with refined aromas of white flowers, lemon and acacia, revealing both freshness and subtle richness. On the palate, it is generous and beautifully balanced, with lively acidity bringing precision to its rounded texture. Delicate hazelnut and biscuit notes add complexity, while the long finish combines ripe fruit, mineral freshness and seamlessly integrated oak nuances.
The 2024 Chablis Vieilles Vignes pairs naturally with shellfish, scallops, fish in delicate sauces, poultry with mushrooms and soft cheeses. Serve at 10–12°C for a fresher expression or 12–14°C alongside food. According to the producer, the wine offers an ageing potential of 5–8 years, potentially longer depending on the vintage.
