Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2023 Domaine Édouard Confuron
The 2023 Bourgogne Pinot Noir from Domaine Édouard Confuron is one of the most compelling wines from the young domaine established by Édouard Confuron in Vosne-Romanée from the 2021 vintage onwards. The grapes come from two particularly interesting Côte de Nuits parcels: Les Croix Blanches, below Vosne-Romanée, and Corvée Creunille, below Morey-Saint-Denis. Although classified as Bourgogne, this origin gives the wine a clear sense of the Côte de Nuits.
The Pinot Noir is hand harvested and made with a restrained, low-intervention approach. The proportion of whole clusters varies according to the vintage; in 2023, around 20% whole bunches were used, contributing freshness and energy. Fermentation takes place with minimal sulphur until after malolactic fermentation, followed by ageing in French oak with only a small proportion of new wood. The wine spends approximately 18 months ageing between barrel and bottle.
In the glass, it displays a bright ruby-purple colour, followed by an expressive profile of raspberry, wild strawberry and fresh red berries. The palate is fresh, energetic and medium-bodied, driven by lively acidity and fine-grained tannins. The fruit remains precise and vibrant, while the oak plays a discreet structural role rather than dominating the aromatic profile.
This combination of purity of fruit, freshness and precision makes Confuron's Bourgogne particularly convincing: immediately enjoyable, yet far from simple, with a depth that goes beyond what is usually expected from a regional Burgundy. Jasper Morris highlights its attractive red-fruit character and notes that it may offer more body than the wines of the family domaine.
