Coteaux Bourguignons 2023 Domaine Édouard Confuron
The 2023 Coteaux Bourguignons from Domaine Édouard Confuron offers a more open and immediate interpretation of Burgundy than the domaine’s Côte de Nuits appellations. The cuvée combines Pinot Noir and Gamay from lower-lying parcels around Morey-Saint-Denis and Vosne-Romanée, where Édouard Confuron focuses on freshness, fruit expression and drinkability.
The vineyards are farmed organically according to biodynamic principles, with the grapes harvested by hand. In the cellar, Pinot Noir and Gamay are vinified together, while the proportion of whole clusters varies according to the vintage. The approach is deliberately restrained, allowing the fruit, freshness and natural energy of the wine to remain at the forefront.
The 2023 vintage shows a particularly bright and fruit-driven profile. The nose offers ripe cherry and red berries, accompanied by delicate earthy nuances, violet and subtle spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, fresh and fluid, with well-integrated acidity providing energy and keeping the fruit vibrant.
This immediacy is at the heart of the cuvée: rather than pursuing austerity or elaborate complexity, it focuses on pure fruit, freshness and drinking pleasure. At the same time, its Côte de Nuits origins and Confuron’s careful approach give the wine a level of definition and character beyond many more generic examples of the appellation.
A young, authentic and highly gastronomic Burgundy, best enjoyed in its early years while its fruit remains vibrant. It can even be served slightly chilled and pairs naturally with charcuterie, roast poultry, white meats, terrines, mushrooms and medium-aged cheeses.
