DOMAINE DE LA BORDE
Tucked into the rolling hills of Pupillin, at the heart of France’s Jura region, Domaine de la Borde stands out as one of the most genuine and exciting wineries of the area. Leading the estate is Julien Mareschal, a passionate and skilled winemaker who, after gaining experience throughout France, returned to his roots with a clear vision: to give voice to the land through wines that honor nature, tradition, and time. From the beginning, Julien committed to biodynamic farming, officially certified since 2012, believing that only through true harmony with the environment can living, expressive, and age-worthy wines be made.
The estate’s 5 hectares of vineyards lie on steep slopes reaching 400 meters above sea level, rooted in blue marl soils—a rich geological base that imparts complexity and depth to the wines. The 30-year-old vines are cultivated with minimal intervention and no synthetic chemicals, relying instead on lunar cycles and seasonal rhythms. Julien grows both local grapes such as Ploussard, Trousseau, and Savagnin, alongside Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, all treated with utmost care.
In the cellar, Julien stays true to his principles: spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, minimal sulfites, and no aggressive filtration, allowing each wine to express its vintage and origin. His portfolio features lively and structured reds, mineral-driven whites, and the iconic Vin Jaune, aged traditionally under flor yeast, capturing the soul of Jura in every bottle.
Labels like “Les Ecrins”, “Terre du Lias”, and “Sous la Roche” represent a pure expression of place and philosophy. Despite its modest size, Domaine de la Borde has become a benchmark for those seeking authentic, terroir-driven wines from Jura—wines with soul, precision, and a deep human touch.
