Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru “Les Suchots” 2021 René Cacheux
The Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru “Les Suchots” 2021 by René Cacheux is a noble and complete expression of Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits. The Les Suchots climat is among the most sought-after Premier Crus in Vosne-Romanée, uniquely positioned between the legendary Grand Crus Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Echézeaux—a proximity that contributes to the wine’s remarkable depth, complexity and finesse.
The vineyard, covering approximately 0.78 hectares with vines averaging 30 years of age, is rooted in clay-limestone soils that provide both structure and elegance. Vineyard management is precise, with controlled yields (around 45 hl/ha) and manual harvesting to ensure optimal fruit quality.
In the cellar, René Cacheux follows a traditional Burgundian approach: full destemming, fermentation in open vats with indigenous yeasts, and regular punch-downs to gently extract color and tannin. The wine is aged for around 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% new, adding depth and complexity while preserving varietal purity. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered to maintain its full expression.
In the glass, it displays a deep, bright purple hue. The nose is rich and layered, offering aromas of black cherry, blackberry and redcurrant, intertwined with sweet spices, pepper and subtle toasted notes. With time, floral and earthy nuances emerge.
On the palate, it is broad, structured and harmonious, supported by fine, polished tannins and vibrant acidity. The balance between concentration and freshness is precise, leading to a long, elegant and spicy finish.
The 2021 vintage highlights precision and finesse, making this wine approachable after a few years of cellaring while offering excellent aging potential of 15+ years. A benchmark Burgundy for collectors and enthusiasts seeking both power and elegance.
