Chablis 1er Cru “Les Séchet” 2023 di Vincent Dauvissat
The Chablis 1er Cru “Les Séchet” 2023 by Vincent Dauvissat is one of the standout Premier Crus from Chablis, showcasing the expressive potential of 100 % Chardonnay grown on the famed Kimmeridgian limestone and marl soils in the Vaillons climat. Séchet’s south‑eastern exposure and shallow stone‑strewn terrain impart remarkable minerality and vivacity to the fruit, setting this wine apart from village‑level Chablis.
Produced by Domaine Dauvissat, a family estate established in 1931 and revered for its classical Chablis style, this wine reflects generations of meticulous vineyard and cellar work. Grapes are hand‑harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts in a combination of stainless steel and oak, followed by extended aging on fine lees, resulting in a wine of depth, tension and longevity. Critics have rated the 2023 vintage highly, noting its intensity, precision and great aging potential.
In the glass, it shows a bright straw yellow color with green highlights. The nose opens with zesty lemon, green apple, saline oyster shell and white blossom, developing subtle hints of hazelnut and chalky stone. On the palate it’s medium‑bodied yet laser‑focused, with vibrant acidity and a crystalline core of mineral drive. The finish is persistent and bone‑dry, with lasting citrus rind and saline notes that echo the terroir.
This wine is ideal with oysters, shellfish and refined fish dishes, and while accessible now, it will continue to reward cellaring over the next decade or more, expressing ever‑greater layers of complexity.
