Vosne-Romanée “Aux Raviolles” 2021 Domaine Capitain Gagnerot
The Vosne-Romanée “Aux Raviolles” 2021 by Domaine Capitain Gagnerot is produced from 100% Pinot Noir grown on limestone soils resting on marl, highly permeable and composed of calcareous scree (éboulis) that promote drainage and protect against erosion. These soils play a crucial role in shaping the wine’s structure and finesse.
The Aux Raviolles climat is located in the northern part of Vosne-Romanée, close to renowned Premier Cru vineyards. Although classified as a Village lieu-dit, it is widely regarded as a site of great pedigree, known for wines with firm tannic structure, aromatic depth and strong aging potential. Pinot Noir here tends toward darker fruit profiles and pronounced spice, while maintaining elegance and balance.
Grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted and destemmed. Fermentation takes place in open vats for around 15 days, with two daily punch-downs at the beginning to ensure gentle yet effective extraction. The wine is then aged for 13 months in French oak barrels, with only 10% new oak, preserving purity of fruit and terroir expression.
In the glass, the wine displays a vermilion to ruby-red color. The nose reveals black fruits such as blackcurrant and blueberry, layered with spicy nuances. On the palate it is powerful and structured, with rich, well-balanced tannins, a harmonious progression and a long, persistent finish that promises excellent aging potential.
A Vosne-Romanée by Capitain Gagnerot of remarkable character, perfect with poultry, prime beef cuts, foie gras and traditional Burgundian washed-rind cheeses.
