CAPITAIN GAGNEROT
Founded in 1802, Maison Capitain Gagnerot stands as one of Burgundy’s oldest and most respected wine estates, with over two centuries of family tradition passed down through generations. After the devastating phylloxera crisis in the 1870s–1880s, Marie Capitain, then a widow, courageously chose to maintain the estate and replant the vineyards, safeguarding the family legacy and strengthening the estate’s reputation. After World War II, Roger Capitain inherited 3 hectares of vineyards and the family négociant business, ensuring continuity. Today, the estate is led by Pierre-François and Delphine, children of Patrice, alongside their spouses, now representing the ninth generation of winemakers.
The estate encompasses 16 hectares of prime vineyards, spread across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, including parcels in Ladoix, Corton, Savigny-les-Beaune, Vosne-Romanée, and other renowned villages. Burgundy’s uniqueness lies in its single-variety wines, with Pinot Noir dominating reds and Chardonnay whites. The combination of limestone, clay, and marl soils allows the estate to produce wines of great finesse, structure, and complexity, expressing fully the specificity of each climat thanks to meticulous vineyard management that blends historical knowledge and agronomic innovation.
Viticulture is guided by sustainable and biodynamic principles, with every intervention aimed at preserving vine and soil health. Practices include soil tillage, hilling, rigorous selection of vines, strict pruning, and early leaf thinning, ensuring the highest grape quality. Harvest is fully manual, with careful sorting before vinification. This meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard translates into balanced, complex wines with outstanding aging potential, featuring deep aromas, structure, and harmony.
Domaine Capitain Gagnerot is internationally recognized for producing refined, elegant, terroir-driven wines, representing the pinnacle of classic Burgundy. Each bottle results from a unique blend of history, passion, technical skill, and deep knowledge of the land, expressing the individuality of each parcel and offering unforgettable sensory experiences. The estate has received numerous accolades, including “Winemakers of the Year 2021” from Guide Hachette, confirming its international excellence.
