Frappato “Ventesima Vendemmia” 2023 Arianna Occhipinti
The Frappato “Ventesima Vendemmia” 2023 is one of the most emblematic wines produced by Arianna Occhipinti, a leading figure of modern Sicilian winemaking and a passionate interpreter of the Vittoria terroir. The wine is made from Frappato di Vittoria grapes grown at 220 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Iblei Mountains, where vineyards grow on calcareous sandy soils known as sub-Apennine sands.
The vineyards have an average age of around 35 years and are cultivated according to biodynamic and certified organic farming, with no chemical interventions. Vines are trained using Guyot and traditional bush vines (alberello), with a density of about 6,000 vines per hectare, ensuring natural balance and concentration. Harvest takes place manually during the first ten days of October, when the grapes reach optimal ripeness while maintaining freshness and aromatic precision.
Winemaking follows a minimal intervention philosophy. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks with indigenous yeasts, with a 25-day skin maceration to gently extract color, aromas and structure. Aging is mostly carried out in concrete vats, while a portion matures in 30-hectoliter Austrian oak casks for about 14 months, followed by a short rest in bottle before release.
In the glass, the wine expresses the true character of Frappato: aromas of red berries, pomegranate, rose petals and delicate spices, complemented by subtle balsamic and mineral notes. On the palate it is fresh, vibrant and elegant, with refined tannins and a juicy texture that encourages another sip. The finish is long, savory and energetic, clearly reflecting the Iblei terroir.
Frappato “Ventesima Vendemmia” 2023 perfectly embodies a contemporary vision of Sicily: authentic, agricultural and deeply rooted in the land. It pairs beautifully with artisanal cured meats, white meats, grilled tuna, Mediterranean cuisine and vegetable dishes, and can also be served slightly chilled to highlight its freshness.
