Morgon Cote du Py 2021 Magnum Jean Foillard
Jean Foillard's Morgon "Côte du Py" 2021 is a benchmark natural wine from the Beaujolais region, crafted from 100% Gamay grown on the volcanic slopes of the Côte du Py cru, the most iconic site in Morgon. Here, soils composed of schist and manganese provide the wine with depth, structure and remarkable minerality.
A natural wine pioneer, Foillard farms organically (though uncertified), following non-interventionist winemaking: hand-harvested grapes, whole-cluster spontaneous fermentation, semi-carbonic maceration in temperature-controlled concrete vats, and aging in used French oak barrels for several months. No filtering or fining, and minimal sulfur use.
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet red color. The nose bursts with wild red berries, violets, sweet spices, earthy tones and forest floor. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet smooth, with velvety tannins, fresh acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish.
A refined, energetic expression of Côte du Py — structured yet pure — with great aging potential and unmistakable character.
