Morgon “Corcelette” 2023 Jean Foillard
In the heart of Beaujolais, Jean Foillard has played a central role in redefining the identity of artisan wine since the 1980s. Alongside Marcel Lapierre and influenced by Jules Chauvet, he developed a philosophy based on minimal intervention, vineyard respect and expressive purity.
Morgon “Corcelette” 2023 comes from one of the most important lieux-dits of the Morgon appellation, located northwest of Villié-Morgon. The soils here are composed of sandy granite and decomposed pink granite, a geological profile that enhances depth, tension and aromatic precision in Gamay.
The vineyards are farmed organically, with hand harvesting and strict grape selection. In the cellar, whole-cluster fermentation takes place with native yeasts and spontaneous fermentation, followed by around 4 weeks of semi-carbonic maceration, true to traditional Beaujolais winemaking.
Ageing continues for at least 6 months in used Burgundy oak barrels, with no fining or filtration. The wine is then bottled and rested, preserving its raw energy and authenticity.
In the glass, it shows a ruby colour with magenta reflections. The nose is layered and precise, offering violet, strawberry jam, ripe red berries, alongside wet stone and saline nuances that underline its mineral dimension.
The palate is both agile and structured, driven by vibrant acidity and finely textured tannins. Fruit purity and freshness shape a long, dynamic finish.
Morgon “Corcelette” 2023 stands as one of the most complete expressions of Foillard’s philosophy: a wine of clarity, depth and natural precision, free from stylistic compromise.
