Nekaj 2018 Damijan Podversic
The Nekaj from Damijan Podversic is one of the most refined and complex expressions of white wines from the Collio Goriziano. This iconic wine showcases the philosophy and expertise of one of Italy’s most talented producers. It is made exclusively from Friulano grapes grown on the sunny slopes of Monte Calvario, on marl-rich soils, which impart minerality and structure. The vineyard is cultivated organically, with no chemical or synthetic substances, ensuring aromatic purity and optimal ripeness of the grapes.
In the winery, Nekaj undergoes 2–3 months of skin maceration in conical oak vats, with spontaneous fermentations and no filtration, preserving the wine’s three-dimensionality and aromatic richness. Aging continues for 36 months in large oak barrels, followed by additional bottle maturation before release, resulting in exceptional complexity, depth, and balance.
In the glass, it shows an intense golden color with orange highlights, visually hinting at its kaleidoscopic and refined bouquet. The nose offers orange peel, quince, clarified butter, aromatic herbs, and hazelnuts, seamlessly integrated with an elegant minerality that enhances depth. On the palate, Nekaj is full, rich, and velvety, balancing fruity sweetness with saline length, creating a multidimensional and memorable experience.
Nekaj appeals to both wine enthusiasts and newcomers, offering a wine for contemplative sipping or pairing with sophisticated dishes of fish, shellfish, and aged cheeses. Each sip tells the story of Damijan Podversic’s vineyards, his dedication to organic viticulture, and the unique Collio terroir with its exceptional climate, soils, and winemaking tradition.
