Ribolla Gialla 2019 Damijan Podversic
The Ribolla Gialla from Damijan Podversic is widely recognized as one of Italy’s greatest white wines and an authentic expression of the Collio Goriziano. It embodies the philosophy and craftsmanship of one of the region’s most talented producers, capable of interpreting the terroir with a unique and unmistakable style. Damijan Podversic, a pupil of Josko Gravner, has developed a personal approach focused on full ripeness of the grapes and skin maceration, preserving every aromatic and mineral nuance.
The wine is made from 100% Ribolla Gialla grapes, grown on the sunny slopes of Monte Calvario on Ponka soils (marl/arenite) at 140–180 meters above sea level, with southern exposure. The vineyard practices are organic, with minimal use of copper and sulfur, ensuring a natural and balanced growth. In the winery, the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation in oak vats and skin maceration for 60–90 days, followed by 36 months aging in large oak barrels (20–30 hl) and an additional 12 months in bottle before release.
In the glass, the Ribolla Gialla shows a luminous amber hue. Its nose is expansive, complex, and ever-changing, revealing ripe peach, hazelnut, aromatic herbs, citrus peel, propolis honey, and subtle iodine notes. On the palate, the wine is powerful, full-bodied, and balanced, with freshness and salinity that enhance its structure and persistence. It is a memorable wine that captivates both seasoned enthusiasts and new wine lovers alike.
The Ribolla Gialla by Damijan Podversic is a true tribute to the Collio, reflecting the producer’s dedication, the territory’s potential, and the region’s winemaking heritage. Ideal for contemplative sipping or pairing with refined fish dishes, shellfish, and aged cheeses, it offers a complete, elegant, and powerful sensory experience.
