Vitovska 2020 Skerk
The Vitovska 2020 from Skerk is a white wine that authentically captures the unique character of the Karst plateau in Trieste. This indigenous grape, grown mainly in the province of Trieste and across the border in Slovenia, finds in Skerk’s cellar one of its most refined and expressive interpretations. Winemaking follows local tradition: a long skin maceration followed by one year of ageing in large oak barrels, with no clarification or filtration, in order to preserve its natural complexity.
In the glass, it shows a bright amber-yellow color with copper highlights. The bouquet is wide and layered, offering vegetal and herbal notes intertwined with linden blossom and wildflowers, hints of green tea, hay, eucalyptus, beeswax, and ripe yellow fruit such as peach and apricot. An elegant and evolving nose that reflects the richness of its terroir.
On the palate, the sip is intense and vibrant, with a creamy and enveloping structure balanced by freshness and a marked salinity, directly inherited from the mineral-rich Karst soils. The finish is persistent and harmonious, lingering with hints of almond and wild herbs, leaving a long and complex impression.
The Vitovska Skerk 2020 is a wine of remarkable personality, combining elegance with authenticity. It pairs beautifully with crustacean-based appetizers, as well as more structured seafood dishes such as fish soup or grilled swordfish, making it a versatile and refined companion to Mediterranean cuisine. A true hidden gem of the Karst, it embodies the Skerk family’s artisanal philosophy, deeply respectful of both nature and tradition.
