Fumin 2019 Grosjean
The Fumin 2019 from Grosjean represents the essence of the Aosta Valley’s heroic viticulture and its most distinctive native grape. Grown on the steep, sunlit slopes of Quart and Saint-Christophe, the vineyards sit on sandy, glacial soils rich in stones and minerals, perfectly exposed to the south and southwest. These natural conditions, combined with the cool alpine climate and strong diurnal temperature shifts, produce wines of exceptional purity and freshness.
The Grosjean family, among the first to practice organic viticulture in the region, cultivates these vines without the use of chemicals and with full respect for biodiversity. After manual harvesting in mid-October, the grapes are destemmed and fermented with native yeasts in contact with the skins for about ten days, with gentle punch-downs. The wine then matures for 15 months in both stainless steel and large wooden vats before resting in bottle.
In the glass, the Fumin 2021 displays a deep ruby-red color. The bouquet opens with aromas of forest berries, alpine herbs, nutmeg, and gentle toasted notes of wood and coffee. On the palate, it’s opulent yet refined, featuring fine-grained tannins, lively acidity, and a long, mineral finish that reflects its mountain origins.
This is a classic alpine red – elegant, structured and deeply connected to its land. It showcases the soul of the Fumin grape, preserved and enhanced by generations of winemakers devoted to the unique terroir of the Aosta Valley.
Food pairings: roasted red meats, game, slow-cooked stews and aged mountain cheeses.
