Côtes du Jura Poulsard 2022 Domaine des Carlines
The Côtes du Jura Poulsard 2022 from Domaine des Carlines is a superb expression of Poulsard, one of the Jura’s historic native grape varieties, celebrated for its elegance, aromatic finesse and remarkable drinkability. Produced by Patrick and Sophie Ligeron, founders of Domaine des Carlines in Ménétru-le-Vignoble, this wine reflects the estate’s philosophy of minimal intervention and faithful terroir expression.
Established in 2015, Domaine des Carlines farms eleven hectares of vineyards, including several parcels within the prestigious Château-Chalon area. Vineyard work focuses on preserving the natural balance of the vines, while cellar practices are deliberately restrained to allow each grape variety to express its true identity.
The grapes are carefully destemmed by hand before undergoing a gentle cold maceration for around ten days. Fermentation takes place naturally with indigenous yeasts, accompanied by light daily pump-overs to achieve delicate extraction. The wine is then aged for approximately eight months in seasoned 500-litre oak casks, allowing the fruit to remain pure while adding subtle texture without overt oak influence.
In the glass, it displays a bright pale ruby colour, characteristic of the Poulsard grape. The nose is elegant and expressive, revealing aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate, redcurrant and rose petals, complemented by delicate earthy and spicy nuances. The palate is vibrant, silky and wonderfully fresh, with fine tannins, juicy red fruit and a distinctive mineral backbone that carries through to a long, savoury finish.
Extremely versatile at the table, Poulsard 2022 pairs beautifully with charcuterie, poultry, white meats, mushrooms, lightly spiced Asian cuisine and semi-aged cheeses. Served slightly chilled, it highlights its vibrant personality and demonstrates why Poulsard remains one of the Jura’s most captivating and distinctive grape varieties.
