Côtes du Jura “En Beaumont” 2021 Domaine des Carlines
The Côtes du Jura “En Beaumont” 2021 from Domaine des Carlines is an outstanding interpretation of Savagnin, the emblematic white grape of the Jura. Although the fruit comes from a small 0.5-hectare vineyard located within the prestigious Château-Chalon appellation, the wine is deliberately bottled as Côtes du Jura because it is crafted in a fresh, topped-up style rather than as the region’s traditional Vin Jaune. This choice allows Savagnin to reveal its purest fruit, vibrant acidity and striking mineral expression.
Founded in 2015 by Patrick and Sophie Ligeron, Domaine des Carlines is a young estate rooted in deep family ties to the Jura. Located in Ménétru-le-Vignoble, the estate farms eleven hectares of vineyards, including several parcels within the celebrated Château-Chalon terroir. Respect for nature and minimal intervention define every stage of production, allowing each vineyard to express its unique identity.
Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts, followed by 12 to 15 months of ageing in used Burgundy oak barrels. The wine then spends several additional months harmonising before bottling, with no fining and no filtration, preserving its texture, complexity and authenticity.
The wine displays a bright golden-yellow colour. The nose reveals elegant aromas of ripe citrus, preserved lemon, yellow apple, alpine herbs, white flowers and flint, complemented by subtle notes of spice and dried nuts. On the palate it is focused, energetic and remarkably mineral, combining richness with exceptional freshness and a long, saline finish that reflects the limestone soils of this exceptional hillside.
With its vibrant acidity and impressive structure, En Beaumont 2021 offers excellent ageing potential, developing even greater complexity over the next decade. It pairs beautifully with shellfish, lobster, noble fish in cream sauces, poultry, refined Asian cuisine and aged Comté cheese. A superb Savagnin that captures the purity, elegance and distinctive character of one of the Jura’s finest terroirs.
