Barbaresco 2022 Giovanni Sordo
The Barbaresco DOCG 2022 by Giovanni Sordo is produced from vineyards located in Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso, the historic heart of the appellation, renowned for refined and age-worthy expressions of Nebbiolo.
The vineyards enjoy south-west exposure, at elevations between 300 and 350 metres above sea level, ensuring balanced ripening. The soils are clay-based with grey calcareous marls and sandy layers, contributing to elegance, structure and refined tannins.
The vines, averaging 25 years of age, are trained on vertical trellises with traditional Guyot pruning, at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare. Yields are limited to 68–72 quintals per hectare, enhancing balance and concentration.
Vinification includes crushing and destemming, followed by a long submerged-cap maceration, depending on the vintage. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with an initial 6-month maturation in stainless steel.
The wine is then aged for 12 months in large Slavonian oak casks, preserving varietal purity and aromatic precision.
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby red colour with good transparency, evolving towards garnet hues with age. The nose is elegant and refined, offering violet floral notes, small red berries, ethereal nuances and delicate spicy hints.
On the palate, it is well-balanced with good body, featuring velvety tannins, lively freshness and a long, persistent finish. With a strong ageing potential, the Barbaresco 2022 by Giovanni Sordo reaches full maturity after 5–10 years, pairing beautifully with red meats, roasts, delicate game and aged cheeses.
