Vosne-Romanée "Le Pré de la Folie" 2023 Édouard Confuron
The 2023 Vosne-Romanée « Pré de la Folie » perfectly reflects the personal approach of Édouard Confuron, a young vigneron from the sixth generation of the Confuron-Gindre family, a historic domaine based in Vosne-Romanée. After working alongside his father François, Édouard gradually developed his own style, establishing a micro-domaine focused on expressing some of the most celebrated terroirs of the Côte de Nuits through a more personal and contemporary sensibility.
« Pré de la Folie » is an exceptionally small-production cuvée, with just four and a half barrels produced in 2023. The grapes come from Vosne-Romanée and are given a very distinctive vinification: 100% whole clusters. This approach pushes the wine towards a highly aromatic expression, emphasizing freshness, lift and the spicy and floral dimensions of Pinot Noir.
The result is immediately captivating. The wine shows a pale ruby to crimson colour, while the nose is dominated by vivid aromas of crushed alpine strawberry, complemented by delicate spice and subtle floral nuances. The whole-cluster character is clearly present but beautifully integrated: rather than austere or rustic, the wine is remarkably fragrant, delicate and sensual.
On the palate, the crushed strawberry character returns with remarkable clarity, supported by a fresh and finely textured structure. The oak is well integrated, contributing depth without overshadowing the fruit. The finish is elegant and persistent, retaining the wine's vibrant red-fruit and aromatic character.
This is a deliberately unconventional Vosne-Romanée. Beneath its expressive whole-cluster style lies the finesse associated with the village, interpreted through the distinctive vision of a young producer establishing his own identity. Rare, fascinating and particularly suited to those who appreciate more individual interpretations of Burgundy.
