Refosco 2013 Scarbolo
The Refosco 2013 from Scarbolo is a powerful and elegant expression of Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, a native Friulian grape known for its structure and aging potential.
Grapes are grown at 60 meters above sea level on south/north-facing slopes, with 15-year-old vines trained using the Guyot system. Soils are composed of red clay, alluvial deposits, minerals, and chalk, giving the wine structure and minerality. Yield is limited to 70 Hl/Ha to ensure concentration and aromatic complexity.
The grapes are destemmed, then fermented in stainless steel tanks with wide bases to optimize color and sweet tannin extraction, with frequent punch-downs.
Aging takes place over 3 years in French oak barrels, followed by 6 months in bottle, resulting in a wine with depth, harmony, and elegance.
The wine shows a deep ruby red color with violet reflections. The nose reveals white pepper, ripe black cherry, boysenberry, chocolate, espresso, dried thyme and sweet smoke, creating a complex and inviting bouquet. On the palate, the Refosco 2013 is full-bodied, robust, with smooth tannins, lively acidity, and a persistent finish, making it an ideal companion for red meats, roasts, game, and aged cheeses.
