Cieck Erbaluce di Caluso Spumante “San Giorgio” 2019

The Erbaluce di Caluso Spumante “San Giorgio” 2019 marks the beginning of Cieck’s story — the wine that started it all. In 1985, inspired by a course on sparkling winemaking in Épernay, Remo Falconieri decided to experiment with the Erbaluce grape, an indigenous variety known for its lively acidity and aromatic finesse. The result was the first Metodo Classico Erbaluce, earning Remo the nickname “the Archimedes of bubbles.”

The grapes are grown on moraine-rich, stony soils at about 320 meters above sea level, facing south-east, where the microclimate ensures perfect ripeness and acidity. After a gentle pressing of whole clusters, fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperatures. The wine then undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle, with an aging of 36 months on the lees. Manual rémuage and disgorgement complete this meticulous process.

In the glass, it shows a bright straw yellow color with green reflections and a fine, persistent perlage. The bouquet reveals fresh mineral notes, green apple, citrus, and hints of bread crust and white flowers. The palate is balanced, crisp and structured, with a lively acidity and creamy mousse. The finish is long, savory and clean, expressing the unique character of the Canavese terroir.
