Erbaluce di Caluso Spumante “Serra Classic” 2019 Cantina della Serra
The Erbaluce di Caluso Spumante “Serra Classic” 2019 is one of the most elegant and distinctive expressions of the Erbaluce grape, the symbolic variety of the Canavese area in northern Piedmont. Produced by Cantina della Serra, a historic cooperative deeply rooted in this land, this Metodo Classico sparkling wine is crafted with great precision and respect for tradition, bringing out the natural character and purity of the grape.
Grown on pergola-trained vines and harvested in mid-September, the Erbaluce grapes are softly pressed to preserve their delicate aromatic profile. The base wine undergoes a controlled fermentation before a secondary fermentation in bottle, where it rests for 36 months on the lees. This long aging period gives the wine remarkable texture, complexity, and finesse.
In the glass, it shines with a pale straw yellow color and a fine, persistent perlage. The nose is refined and expressive, offering delicate notes of elderflower, chamomile, sage, and ripe citrus, followed by nuances of brioche, hazelnut, and lychee — a signature of extended lees contact.
On the palate, it is fresh and balanced, with a subtle minerality and medium body that complement the lively effervescence. Elegant and precise, the finish lingers with pleasant hints of pear and artemisia, leaving a clean and persistent impression.
Ideal as an aperitif or throughout a meal, it pairs beautifully with rich and savory dishes, such as baked stuffed onion from Chiaverano, risottos, seafood, or soft cheeses.
The “Serra Classic” embodies the timeless elegance of Erbaluce, proving how this native grape can excel even in sparkling form, combining the purity of the Canavese terroir with refined winemaking craftsmanship.
