Canavese Barbera “Monte Gerbido” 2021 – La Masera
The Canavese Barbera “Monte Gerbido” 2021 expresses the authentic soul of the Canavese area through the craftsmanship of La Masera, a winery located between Piverone and Settimo Rottaro, in the northern part of Piedmont. The vineyards lie on the gentle slopes of the Ivrea morainic amphitheatre, where sandy-clay soils rich in stones and a temperate microclimate create the ideal environment for Barbera.
Harvesting takes place by hand in early October, selecting only the healthiest and ripest clusters. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, with about ten days of skin contact and frequent pump-overs to enhance extraction. The wine then ages for 6 to 10 months, half in stainless steel and half in small oak barrels, before blending and bottling after a light filtration.
In the glass, it displays an intense ruby-red color with violet reflections. The nose reveals harmonious aromas of red berries, plum, and floral hints, while the palate is soft, fresh, and pleasantly savory, supported by a balanced structure and lingering finish.
Versatile and elegant, Monte Gerbido is an ideal everyday red wine, pairing beautifully with traditional Piedmontese starters, rich pasta dishes, and meat-based mains. A genuine expression of Canavese terroir, combining freshness, authenticity, and the timeless charm of Piedmont Barbera.
