List of products by brand CANTINA DELLA SERRA
Founded in 1953 thanks to the vision of Adriano Olivetti, Cantina della Serra is one of the most historic and iconic wineries in Canavese, Piedmont. Created to preserve local agriculture, it has become a benchmark for Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG, the first white wine from Piedmont to gain DOC status. With over 230 members and 150 hectares of vineyards, the winery combines tradition and modern technology to craft authentic wines that express their terroir.
MoreCantina della Serra, located in the heart of Canavese, Piedmont, is a historic cooperative born from the enlightened vision of Adriano Olivetti — entrepreneur, politician, and sociologist, as well as a pioneer in linking industry and agriculture for territorial balance. In 1953, Olivetti promoted the creation of a cooperative winery that could sustain the local economy and preserve the landscape, leading to the foundation of Cantina della Serra on May 10, 1953, with 99 founding members.
The cooperative grew rapidly, reaching over 1,000 members by 1961, becoming a cornerstone of winemaking in northern Piedmont. Much of this success is attributed to Vittorio Boratto, an innovative and visionary leader who modernized the winemaking processes and fostered collaboration among Canavese producers. His efforts contributed to the birth of the Erbaluce di Caluso DOC in 1967, the first white wine denomination recognized in Piedmont.
Today, Cantina della Serra counts around 230 members and vinifies up to 10,000 quintals of grapes per year, producing about 8,000 hectoliters of wine, 70% of which are DOCG and DOC. Its 150 hectares of vineyards, mostly registered for Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG and Canavese DOC, are located on the morainic hills of the Serra d’Ivrea, characterized by stony, well-drained soils and south-to-west exposures that ensure exceptional grape quality.
The winery produces not only Erbaluce in its Still, Sparkling, and Passito versions, but also reds from Nebbiolo, Barbera, Freisa, Croatina, and Neretto, for a portfolio of over 30 different labels expressing the diversity of the Canavese terroir.
In the cellar, tradition meets innovation: alongside the historic building housing oak barrels for the finest wines, the winery features modern stainless-steel tanks, temperature-controlled fermentation systems, and an advanced bottling line, including bag-in-box packaging. Since 2010, a photovoltaic system has been in place, highlighting the cooperative’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.
With more than 70 years of history, Cantina della Serra remains one of Piedmont’s most significant cooperatives — a symbol of community, craftsmanship, and enduring dedication to the land. Each bottle embodies the passion of its growers and the authentic soul of Canavese winemaking.
