Erbaluce di Caluso “Kin” 2017 Tappero Merlo
The Erbaluce di Caluso “Kin” 2017 by Tappero Merlo originates in the Canavese area as a tribute to the winemaker’s grandfather, whose philosophy combined patience, craftsmanship and deep respect for nature. Produced from the native Erbaluce grape grown on mineral-rich morainic soils, this wine highlights the remarkable ageing potential of the denomination.
Fermentation starts spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and skin contact in Slavonian oak vats, then continues in 20-hectolitre French oak casks where malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine ages for 18 to 36 months depending on the vintage, resting on fine lees with weekly batonnage to enhance texture, aromatic depth and structural complexity. After additional time in stainless steel and gentle clarification, bottle ageing continues until release, ensuring impressive longevity. In the glass it displays a deep straw yellow colour with golden reflections; the bouquet reveals sage, balsamic and spicy notes layered with citrus, floral hints and wild herbs over a distinct mineral backbone.
On the palate, freshness and salinity support a full, harmonious structure, leading to a warm, citrus-driven and persistent finish. A refined and structured Italian white wine capable of evolving beautifully for many years.
